BUILDING A LEGACY FOR SPORT AND HEALTH POST MEGA SPORTING EVENTS

THE MINISTRY OF PUBLIC HEALTH OF QATAR AND THE SUPREME COMMITTEE FOR DELIVERY AND
LEGACY CORDIALLY INVITE YOU TO A SIDE EVENT TO THE 76TH WORLD HEALTH ASSEMBLY

The event is organized within the framework of the Sport and Health partnership established in October 2021, between the State of Qatar, the World Health Organization and FIFA with the aim to deliver and ensure the legacy of a healthy and safe FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM

The side event will bring key stakeholders together to:

  • ​Discuss their experience and their planning approach in hosting mega-sporting events including the core components of legacy. 
  • Garner support from all involved stakeholders towards a sustained global movement for sport and health.

Objectives

  • ​Build a legacy for Sport and Health in mega sports events focusing on 
    • ​​Health Security and mass gatherings 
    • Health Promotion including physical activity, nutrition, mental health, tobacco, and substance abuse prevention 
    • Health Communication and Advocacy ​
  • Establish partnerships and long-lasting collaboration among past, current, and future host countries and linkages with diferent sport federations at regional and international levels. 
  • Launch of the guidance on healthy food over at mega sports events.

In October 2021, the State of Qatar, the World Health Organization (WHO) and FIFA announced a three-year partnership, with the aim to deliver and ensure the legacy of a healthy and safe FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM, setting the Qatar World Cup as an influential, sustainable, and lasting model promoting integration of health, security and well-being for future mega-sport events. 

Within the framework of this partnership, the State of Qatar is organizing a side event that brings together key stakeholders to discuss their experience and planning approach to hosting mega-sporting events, The event also aims to mobilize support and commitment from all relevant stakeholders towards a sustainable global movement for sport and health.
